ISLAMABAD/KARACHI: The federal and provincial governments have put security on high alert across the country to avert any untoward incident as Wafaqul Madaris Al Arabia and religious parties are set to hold countrywide protest against Rawalpindi incident today (Friday).

In Karachi, police sealed various main roads, intersections and Red Zone with containers where Chief Minister House and the Governor House are located as part of security measures.

All link roads around Guru Mandir including the Jail Road, Lasbela Road, Jamshed Road and New M.A Jinnah Road have been sealed with barriers.

Moreover, the Sindh government has imposed 24-hour ban on pillion-riding in Karachi and enhanced police and Rangers’ patrolling.

Likewise, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has imposed section 144 in various parts of the province including Nowshera, Akora Khattak, Risalpur and Pabbi in view of potential volatility today.

The provincial government has also disallowed pillion riding and protest rallies in different cities; while colleges have been announced to be closed and schools will remain open today.

Similarly, Pakistan army and rangers personnel have been deployed in 13 sensitive districts of Punjab including Rawalpindi to maintain law and order situation while imposition of section 144 has also been ensured across the province.

The ban has also been imposed on pillion riding in various districts of Punjab province including Faisalabad, Jhang and Toba Tek Singh. All government and private educational institutes in Gujranwala and Faisalabad will remain closed today.
