ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan said comprehensive security cover will be provided to all contesting candidates in the general elections.
Secretary Election Commission Ishtiaq Ahmad told media in Islamabad that federal and provincial government and all concerned departments have been directed to ensure full security to candidates.
The Secretary said maximum security will also be provided to the people on the polling day enabling them to cast their vote in a free and fair environment.
He said a meeting of the representatives of federal and provincial governments has also been convened on Thursday to review security plan for the elections. He said the Election Commission has also proposed long term measures for improving law and order situation in the country.
To a question Ishtiaq Ahmad said that the Election Commission is bound to implement Supreme Court verdict with regard to granting right of vote to overseas Pakistanis.
