MULTAN, Pakistan: At least seven persons were killed while several others sustained injuries when a stampede occurred at the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) rally in Multan on Friday night.
The stampede started as the people were leaving from one of the three gates leading out of the rally venue so after the jalsa ended, according to SSP operations.
The injured were shifted to Nishtar hospital for medical treatment.
The MS Nishtar hospital said that all the deaths occurred due to suffocation. He added that seven persons died and 43 others injured due to stampede near Hussain Agahi morr.
Meanwhile, the PTI spokesperson Shireen Mazari blamed the police and local administration for the incident.
“We believe it is a total failure of the administration. We saw ourselves how people moved aside as spectators, and the crowd was standing on the seats. This is a very unfortunate incident, and it would not have happened if the police had cooperated,” Mazari told media.
