RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: The security forces killed at least seven militants in a clash that took place on Saturday in Mohmand agency, one of Pakistan’s seven tribal agencies near the Afghan border.
In a statement, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that bodies of the militants were taken into custody and handed over to local administration for further investigation.
Earlier, the security forces conducted a search operation in Peshawar’s Mithra camp and arrested 72 suspected Afghan nationals.
The sources said that a large number of illegal immigrants had allegedly been residing in the area.
Over 10,000 terror suspects have been arrested in around 15,000 operations conducted across the country as part of the implementation of anti-terror national action plan (NAP) adopted in wake of Peshawar army public school terror attack.
A latest report on the implementation of NAP said that 9413 operations were carried out in Punjab, 1577 in Sindh, 2724 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 39 in Balochistan, 336 in Islamabad, 720 in Azad Kashmir, 29 in Gilgit-Baltistan and 56 in the federally administrated tribal areas (FATA).
The report said that 1934 arrests were made in Punjab, 1533 in Sindh, 460 in Balochistan, 6038 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 505 in Islamabad, 129 in FATA and 10 in Gilgit-Baltistan.
