MOSCOW: Seven suspected Islamist militants were shot dead by Russian security forces in the restive Russian North Caucasus Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria on Tuesday, the Interfax news agency reported.
Security forces fired on two cars whose drivers showed reluctance to display identification documents though they were asked to do so that resulted in the death of three suspected militants, Interfax cited unidentified law enforcement officials as saying.
In a separate incident, four suspected militants involved in supplying weapons to illegal armed groups were killed on Tuesday in the same region.
During a security operation, an arsenal of weapons and ammunition, including an improvised explosive device, was found in the militants’ car and several houses, the National Anti-Terrorist Committee was quoted as saying.
