CrimeSharukh Jatoi files appeal in SHC against his death sentence

KARACHI: Shahrukh Jatoi filed an appeal on Wednesday in the Sindh High Court against his death sentence in the Shahzeb murder case, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported.

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Karachi on Friday pronounced death penalty for Shahrukh Jatoi, main accused in the Shahzeb murder case, and his accomplice Siraj Talpur. However, the two other suspects in the case, Nawab Sajjad Ali Talpur and Murtaza Lashari, were given life imprisonment.

Jatoi’s counsel Shaukat Zuberi filed the appeal in the SHC, pleading to the court to void the death sentence and grant acquittal in the case.

The 20-year-old Shahzeb Khan, son of a DSP, was shot dead on the night of December 24, 2012 when he was returning home along with his sister after attending a wedding. He was murdered reportedly after he had an altercation with one of the suspects’ servant who had allegedly given verbal threats to the victim’s sister.

Seven people including Shahrukh Jatoi, Nawab Siraj Ali Talpur, his younger brother Nawab Sajjad Ali Talpur and their house servant Ghulam Murtaza Lashari were charged with killing Shahzeb in the city’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA).
