WASHINGTON: Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, Sherry Reham, has tendered resignation from his office today.
She had replaced Hussain Haqqani in November 2011 after he resigned from the post over the secret memo scandal.
Sherry Rehman sent her resignation to the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mir Hazar Khan Khoso, spokesman to Pakistani embassy confirmed.
Journalist, politician and ambassador, Sherry Rehman, is associated with Pakistan Peoples Party for a long time. She was elected to the National Assembly in 2002 on a reserved seat for women, and returned again in 2008 as MNA on women’s reserved seats.
Sherry Rehman has served as Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Pakistan (2008-09) and ranking member of the National Security Committee in the Parliament.
Rehman also held three additional portfolios of Health, Women Development and Culture as Federal Minister, in 2008.
This year, she was awarded with Nishan-i-Imtiaz, the highest honour given to any civilian, for her performance as ambassador.
