Sindh CM challenges voter verification in his constituency PS-29

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has filed a petition in the Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday, challenging an election tribunal’s decision to carry out voter’s thumb verification process in Khairpur’s NA-215 and PS-29 constituencies.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Syed Ghous Ali Shah had challenged the victory of Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) leaders Syed Qaim Ali Shah in PS-29 constituency and Nawab Ali Wassan in NA-215 constituency in May 11 elections through separate elections petitions in an election tribunal in Karachi.

However, both the PPP leaders had filed applications which challenged the maintainability of the elections petitions against their victory.

But on December 6, the election tribunal dismissed the applications of Qaim Ali Shah and Nawab Ali Wassan and ruled that the election petitions against them were maintainable in the tribunal.

The tribunal also ordered the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) to carry out verification of thumb impressions of voters on entire ballots in a provincial assembly seat in PS-29.
