Sindh govt rejects relief aid offered by Punjab govt for famine-hit Tharparkar

KARACHI: The Sindh government on Saturday turned down the relief aid offered by the Punjab government for the famine-hit people of Tharparkar district in Sindh province.

In a handout issued by the Punjab government, it was said that the Sindh government was offered all sorts of help and assistance for drought-hit Tharparkar through a communication but the Sindh government has rebuffed the offer.

On Friday evening, the Chief Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani took notice of the incidents of death of children by pneumonia and malnutrition in Tharparkar district.

Justice Jillani constituted a three-member committee and fixed the hearing of the case on Monday. He directed the Sindh government and authorities concerned to submit report about the issue.

The media reports from Mithi, the capital of Tharparkar, stated that 121 children have lost their lives because of famine and malnutrition in the district.
