KARACHI, Pakistan: Sindh Minister for Health Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar on Tuesday said 10 mobile teams comprising doctors and paramedics, equipped with incubators, oxygen, tents and other essential gadgets had been dispatched to Thar.
Talking to media, he said more than 17 infants had died in Thar during the current year as these were mainly those born pre-matured and delivered at home with all chances to get exposed to different infections.
To a query, he said in compliance with the directives of the Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah facilities were also being constantly upgraded at the pediatrics, gynecology and general medicine departments at Mithi Civil Hospital as well as other health-care facilities in the area.
The health minister said equal attention is also being paid towards capacity building of the lady health workers visiting small villages scattered across Thar.
Dispelling that there may be any drought in Thar, he said poverty was a rampant menace and the provincial government had made special arrangement for free of cost distribution of wheat among remote areas in the district.
