SINGAPORE: The Singaporean artist Ho Tzy Nyen’s PYTHAGORAS (2013) has won the Grand Prize of the Asia Pacific Breweries Foundation Signature Art Prize 2014 worth $60,000.
The award was given to Ho Tzy Nyen by the Minister of Culture, Community and Youth Lawrence Wong at an awards ceremony held at the Singapore Art Museum (SAM) on Thursday evening.
The triennial prize, established in 2008 by the Asia Pacific Breweries (APB) Foundation and the SAM, seeks to present the most outstanding contemporary art from both established and emerging artists in the Asia Pacific region.
The third edition of the triennial prize received 105 nominations from 24 countries and territories in June 2014, which was later shortlisted to 15 artworks from 13 countries including Pakistan in August 2014.
A judging panel comprising well-known international and regional art experts assessed the 15 finalist works to determine the winners.
The two Jurors’ Choice Awards went to Melati Suryodarmo from Indonesia for “I’m a Ghost in My Own House”, and Liu Jianhua from China for “Trace”. Each of them walked away with S$15,000.
The last two editions of the APB Foundation Signature Art Prize will take place in 2017 and 2020.
The Asia Pacific Breweries Foundation Signature Art Prize 2014 Finalists Exhibition will open till March 15, 2015 at the SAM.
