PESHAWAR, Pakistan: A US drone strike has killed at least six suspected militants in Sorakai tehil of South Waziristan on Friday.
The security sources said that the drone fired two missiles to target militants’ hideouts.
Subsequently, at least six suspected militants were killed; however, their identity is yet to be ascertained.
The drone strike occurred when a group of militants stormed a residential camp of Pakistan Air Force (PAF) in Peshawar’s Badabair area early on Friday and killed 16 people who were offering Fajr prayer at a mosque. The militants also attacked a guardroom where two junior PAF technicians were killed.
In response, the security forces killed 13 militants in an exchange of fire between the two sides.
In the clash with militants, Pakistan Army’s Captain Asfandyar Bukhari was martyred while 22 other soldiers were injured who were taken to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Peshawar and Lady Reading Hospital for medial treatment.
Meanwhile, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif and Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman reached Peshawar to witness the situation and supervise clearing up operation.
The COAS visited the Corps Headquarters where he was briefed about the operation against the terrorists. He also visited the injured personnel of the Armed forces who took part in the operation.
