Six killed as twin blasts target peace committee volunteers in Mohmand agency

PESHAWAR, Pakistan: Two explosions occurred targeting the peace committee volunteers in Mohmand tribal region’s Safi tehsil on Friday, killing at least six person and injuring four others.

The first blast occurred when the peace committee volunteers were riding a motorcycle in Chinari village of Safi tehsil but in the meantime, a remote-controlled improvised explosive device (IED) planted on the roadside exploded.

The reports said that the second blast took place when the bodies and injured from the first blast were being evacuated.

The injured persons were shifted to the main hospital in the area while according to reports, the death toll is likely to rise.

The security personnel reached the blast site and cordoned off the area as a probe into the incident went underway.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Mohmand agency and expressed deep sense of shock and grief over the loss of lives.

The prime minister reiterated the government’s determination to continue operation till elimination of the menace of terrorism from the country and the region.
