MUZAFFARGARH, Pakistan: Six alleged terrorists were killed in an encounter with the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) late on Thursday night here.

A CTD officials said on a tip off that terrorists including Yasir Punjabi, and five to six others, who had escaped from Multan last Wednesday night during an encounter at Nawabpur after killing their eight accomplices, were trying to flee to Balochistan through Muzaffargarh and Dera Ghazi Khan.

A joint team of CTD and law enforcers from another agency set- up a barricade at Mondka Chowk near Muzaffargarh city on the link road leading to Dera Ghazi Khan.

The CTD team spotted a motorcyclist and a car, and signalled them to stop. However, the alleged terrorists opened fire at the team.

The car turned out to be having fitted with a Vehicle-Borne-Improvised-Explosive-Device (VBIED) as it exploded after being hit by a bullet during firing.

The alleged Al-Qaeda terrorist Yasir Punjabi who was riding motorcycle was killed by the firing of his own accomplices.

The remaining five terrorists were also found dead in the car and CTD officials were engaged in ascertaining their identity.

Recoveries include one automatic rifle, pistols, burnt explosives in car and motorcycle.

Investigation has shown that terrorist Yasir Punjabi was listed in the red book and carried Rs one million head money. He had carried out eight blasts in two days in Gujranwala. He was also a mastermind of attack on Qadiyani worship places in Lahore and personally involved in target killings of police officers in Uch Sharif, Muzaffargarh, DG khan and Layyah.
