In an attempt to raise their annual revenues, Snapchat, the infamous photo and video sharing app, has decided to start charging users for multiple replays. This feature has already made its way to all Android devices in the app’s latest update and has received mixed reviews from the public.
Originally, the app allowed users to rewatch a Snap once a day for free. Thanks to this update, not only users will be able to retain the once a day replay-ability, they will also be able to replay a Snap any number of times they want, provided they are willing to pay for it. The app will charge $0.99 for three extra replays, $2.99 for ten, and $4.99 for twenty. The company acknowledged the fact that these replays are a bit expensive in their blog post by stating, “Today, U.S. Snapchatters can purchase extra Replays, starting at 3 for $0.99. You can use a Replay on any Snap you receive, but you can only Replay any Snap once. They’re a little pricey — but time is money! ;)”
The update has also brought some new camera lenses for all Selfie lovers, giving them the ability to replace their eyes with heads, turn their faces wrinkly and old, look more demonic than usual or to simply puke rainbows. The only downside is that these lenses are not compatible with all Android devices. The company still hasn’t released an official compatibility list but one can safely assume that those of us with older Android devices won’t really be able to utilize these lenses.
