KARACHI: A day of mourning is being observed in Karachi on Monday (today) against the Abbas Town tragedy, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported.
At least 45 people including women and children lost their lives while 140 others were injured in a massive bombing in the Karachi’s Shia-dominated neighbourhood of Abbas Town on Sunday evening.
In order to express solidarity with the victim families, a complete strike is being observed across Sindh and Punjab provinces. The national flag is hoisting at half mast at all the government buildings in Karachi including the Sindh Assembly.
All the private and government educational institutions and business establishments are closed. All the petrol pumps are also closed and traffic is thin.
Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf has also cancelled all his official engagements and directed the local administration to actively participate in the relief activities.
Meanwhile, Governor Sindh Dr. Ishratul Ebad Khan has announced that Sindh provincial government will bear all the reconstruction cost of all the damaged flats and shops Karachi tragedy.
DND
