ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal on Tuesday termed strong democracy as imperative for strong defence, and said only people through their representatives had the right to rule the Country.
“This country is owned by its people and only they have the right to rule it,” the minister said while addressing Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) General Council meeting held at Convention Center in Islamabad in which the former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was re-elected as party head.
The minister said it was peoples’ prerogative to take decisions to make the Country economically and politically strong as more than 200 million people of Pakistan had sacrificed a lot in the war against terror and to ensure peace.
Ahsan Iqbal also reiterated his resolve to strengthening democracy in the Country. He said removing the dictatorial clauses in the political parties laws by the Parliament was another step towards strengthening democracy.
The interior minister further said those criticizing the amendment in Election Reforms Bill 2017 must be aware that such black laws of dictatorial regimes bar popular leaders from politicking.
“Today once again Nawaz Sharif is party president and it was the will of the people to see him in active politics,” he said.
Ahsan Iqbal said the former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was a symbol of progress for the Country and protection to the rights of over 200 million people of Pakistan.
