NEW DELHI: Sunanda Pushkar, the wife of an Indian minister Shashi Tharoor, who was found dead in a luxury hotel in New Delhi last night, had injury marks on her body and it is a case of unnatural, sudden death, one of the doctors who conducted the autopsy said.

“On postmortem examination we can say that it is a case of unnatural sudden death. There were certain injury marks on the body but we can’t divulge details at this point,” said Sudhir Kumar Gupta, head of forensic sciences department at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi.

“We will conclude our report and opinion in a couple of days,” Gupta added.

Earlier, a three-member team of senior doctors at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi completed the autopsy on the body of 52-year-old Sunanda Pushkar who was found dead in room number 345 of five-star Leela hotel in Capital’s Chanakyapuri last night, days after accusing her husband on Twitter of being unfaithful.

Following the autopsy, Shashi Tharoor was handed over the body of her wife whose last rites are likely to be conducted at the Lodhi Road crematorium later on Saturday evening.

The Indian media citing sources reported that some of Pushkar’s family members including her brother and son Shiv Menon visited the AIIMS where the autopsy was conducted.
