ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday ordered the Inspector General of Punjab Police Faisal Shahkar to register an FIR of the attack on the former Prime Minister Imran Khan in Waziristan within 24 hours, with warning that the directives are not complied, the Apex Court will take a Suo Moto Notice on it.
Talking to the IG Punjab, who appeared via video link from the Supreme Court’ Lahore Registry, the Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial asked him the reason for which the FIR hadn’t been registered yet.
The Chief Justice said that there must be a solid reason of not filing an FIR. He asked the Police Chief to continue to work as per the law without any interference.
Justice Umar Ata Bandial remarked that an attempt was made to kill a national leader; therefore, the provincial police must understand the sensitivity of the matter.
Last Thursday, a gunman opened fire on the Chairman PTI Imran Khan in Punjab’s Wazirabad City as he was leading a long march towards Islamabad.
In the incident, Imran Khan along with other PTI leaders suffering injuries while one person died on the spot of shooting.
