Dushanbe, Tajikistan: Turkmenistan and Tajikistan reviewed the pace of work on Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Turkmenistan (TAT) Railway track during a meeting of Tajik President Emomali Rahmon with President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov here on Thursday.
According to information, both presidents also discussed the possibilities of linking TAT with Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway track which became operational on October 30, 2017. Cargo trade from Turkmenistan is already linked with the new port of Baku.
Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Turkmenistan (TAT) railway runs through North Khusrav ( Panj–Tajikistan) Mazar-e-Sharif, Andkhoy (Afghanistan) and Kelif, Atamurat (Turkmenistan). The total length of track will be 160 kilometers. The total project covers a line around 635 km long.
Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov during his meeting with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon said that both the countries have (had) a great potential to develop and implement large transport and energy projects. “The construction of the railway “TAT is a vivid example of cooperation in this direction. In the field of transport, the parties also paid special attention to the issue of establishing a direct air route between the two countries”, commented President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
An Agreement between the Republic of Tajikistan and Turkmenistan on strategic partnership was also signed on Thursday during the meeting of both the presidents. Energy, transport, light industry and food processing, construction, agriculture and tourism remain priority areas for economic cooperation.
The parties stressed the important role of the Intergovernmental Commission on trade-economic and scientific-technical cooperation and holding business forums among business circles of the two countries to achieve high economic indicators.
Also during the meeting, the sides expressed satisfaction with the level of political dialogue and the implementation of previously agreed documents on cooperation.
During the meeting, the parties also discussed issues of development of cooperation in the field of cultural, humanitarian and educational activities and stressed the importance of holding Days of Culture as an important factor in bilateral relations.
At the end of the meeting, held in a friendly atmosphere, both sides expressed their readiness to strengthen cooperation in the international arena to solve international problems, to jointly combat threats and challenges of the modern world, terrorism and extremism, drug trafficking, security and stability of the region and stabilize the political situation in the region. Afghanistan.
After official meetings and negotiations, 13 new documents on cooperation between Tajikistan and Turkmenistan were signed.
The joint communiqué and the Agreement between the Republic of Tajikistan and Turkmenistan on strategic partnership were signed by the heads of both states – the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
