PakistanTaliban should announce ceasefire before talks: Rehman Malik

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Rehman Malik said on Wednesday that Taliban should announce a 30-day ceasefire as a precursor to peace talks which they had offered earlier this month, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported.

“First there should be ceasefire and peace talks can be held only after it,” Malik told media persons.

In a video message earlier this month, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan proposed peace talks with the government provided that certain opposition politicians, including Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif, act as guarantors. The PML-N chief welcomed the peace talks offer but refused to be a guarantor.

The minister said that the nation had rejected the campaign of terror launched by the militants.

“The nation has rejected the system of Taliban, this is voice of majority, come forward, announce a one-month ceasefire and then hold negotiations,” Malik said.
