ISLAMABAD: An accountability court in Islamabad on Tuesday handed over Tauqeer Sadiq, the fugitive former chief of the Oil and Gas Regularity Authority (Ogra), to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on 14 days physical remand in the OGRA corruption case.

Earlier, the NAB officials presented Tauqeer Sadiq‚ who is accused of being involved in a multi-billion rupee scam‚ in the accountability court in Islamabad on Tuesday.

Justice Muhammad Bashir of accountability court heard the case of Tauqeer Sadiq.

During the hearing, Sadiq pleaded innocent before the bench, and accused authorities of mistreating him. “There is still no charge-sheet against me. All charges leveled against me are baseless,” he said in court.

Sadiq said that his life was in danger. “I should be granted access to legal counsel. NAB officials are threatening to break my bones and shoot me to death, pressurizing me into pleading guilty,” he claimed.

The accountability bureau requested the court for 14 days physical remand of the former Ogra chairman, which was subsequently granted by the bench.

The bench also ordered a medical examination of Sadiq, who will be presented in court again on July 23.

Later, the court adjourned the hearing of OGRA corruption case till 23rd July.

Tauqir Sadiq was brought to Pakistan this morning after Interpol authorities handed him over to the NAB officers late on Monday. Sadiq was flown back home through a private airline.
