Terrorists storm police station in Peshawar killing 4 police officers

PESHAWAR: Four police officers were killed and six others were injured when three taliban suicide bombers armed with assault rifles and grenades attacked the C Division Police Station in the busy urban limits of the provincial capital, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported on Friday.

The murderous attack in the city of Peshawar was the latest in a spasm of violence in the area, showing that Pakistani Taliban militants retain the capacity to strike.

A hitherto unheard organisation, Abu Hafs Katibatul al-Ghurba al-Mujahideen, or Katiba al-Ghurba in short, claimed responsibility for the attack on the police station and said it was carried out to avenge the death of commander Badar Mansoor in a recent US drone strike.

Those killed in the police station included Inspector Munawwar, Sub-Inspector Dawaee Khan, Constable Falak Niaz and Constable Shah Khan.

Mian Iftikhar Hussain, Provincial Information Minister, told Dispatch News Desk (DND) that the attackers wanted to take the 372 cops hostage inside the police station to press the government for acceptance of their demands.
