ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has said that there is no trouble in the bilateral relations between Pakistan and Iran.

His remarks came on Saturday when he held a meeting with his Pakistani Counterpart President Mamnoon Hussain in Islamabad where he arrived yesterday on a two-day official visit.

Rouhani, during the meeting with Mamnoon in which two leaders discussed bilateral relations and matters of mutual interest, said that peace in Afghanistan is necessary for the stability in the region. He emphasised to resolve all the issues confronting the region through talks.

Mamnoon Hussain said that both Pakistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran want to expand cooperation in various fields including trade, defence, energy and communications. He said that the two countries also agreed to extend cooperation to curb terrorism.

The president said that Pakistan is considering purchasing electricity from Iran and underlined that Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project will help greatly to meet country’s energy requirements.

Mamnoon Hussain also stressed the need to increase air and ground links for increasing people to people contacts and boosting trade.

The president said that Pakistan wants good cordial relations with all its neighbours including India. However, he said solution of the Kashmir issue is imperative for improving Pak-India relations.

President Mamnoon Hussain also hosted a luncheon in honour of his Iranian counterpart.
