ISLAMABAD: Following the decisions of Emirates airline and Etihad airways to suspend their flight operations for Peshawar over security concerns, the Qatar airways also cancelled at least two of its flights to Pakistan’s northern city.
A spokesperson of the Qatar airways confirmed that flight QR608 which was scheduled to fly from Doha to Peshawar on Tuesday evening was cancelled along with QR609, scheduled from Peshawar to Doha on early Wednesday morning.
“The decision to cancel or continue operating more flights to Peshawar would be taken later,” the spokesperson said.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Emirates airline had also suspended its flight operations to and from Peshawar to ensure the safety of passengers and Emirates staff.
Likewise, the Etihad airways had also cancelled one of its Abu Dhabi to Peshawar flight on Wednesday citing security concerns.
The development came after one woman was killed and two flight stewards injured due to firing by unknown gunmen at a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight at Bacha Khan International Airport Peshawar on Tuesday night. However, the pilot safely landed the plane at airport and averted a big catastrophe.
