ISLAMABAD: A three-member group named as ‘Haqiqi Opposition Group’ has been formed in the National Assembly to raise voice for the rights of masses, Awami Muslim League (AML) Chief Sheikh Rashid told media representatives outside the Parliament House on Tuesday.
The group includes Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed, Jamshed Dasti and Muhammad Zain Elahi while four more lawmakers will also join the group later, the AML chief said.
Sheikh Rasheed will head the group while Jamshed Dasti will serve as Secretary General.
The AML chief said that formation of this group will not affect his party alliance with other parties including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). He said that presently no party in the parliament was playing the role of genuine opposition which compelled him to form a new group in the National Assembly.
Jamshed Dasti was elected MNA as an independent candidate after he won the May 11 elections from Muzaffargarh’s NA-178, while Muhammad Zain Elahi was also elected MNA as an independent candidate from Attock’s NA-59.
Zain Elahi, being the youngest member of the National Assembly, is the son of ex-district nazim Major (retd) Tahir Sadiq Khan and also the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain’s nephew.
