Treason case: Special court rejects Musharraf’s request to leave country

ISLAMABAD: The special court on Friday rejected the request of the former President Pervez Musharraf to leave the country and issued a bailable arrest warrant against him.

A three-member special court headed by Justice Faisal Arab and comprising Justice Tahira Safdar and Justice Yawar Ali formed to try Musharraf for high treason announced its verdict on the medical report of the former president submitted by doctors of the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC) where he is currently under treatment.

The special court said that there was no reason why the former president couldn’t appear before the court to face treason charges.

The court also ordered to produce Musharraf on February 7 before the court and directed Islamabad Police Inspector General to ensure the implementation of the verdict.

Musharraf was shifted to the AFIC in Rawalpindi earlier this month after he suffered heart problem on his way to the special court to appear before it for the treason case.
