PESHAWAR: The outlawed Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed responsibility for a suicide attack that targeted a military vehicle on Fateh Jang road near Rawalpindi and another attack on Pakistan army posts in Bajaur agency on Wednesday morning.
Earlier in the day, a suicide blast targeting a military vehicle on Fateh Jang road near Tarnol area of Rawalpindi went off that left five persons including two military officers – Lieutenant Colonel Zahir Shah and Lieutenant Colonel Arshad – killed.
Separately, at least two soldiers were killed while three soldiers including one officer sustained injuries in an attack of militants from across the border in Bajaur agency.
In a statement on Wednesday, the spokesman for the militant outfit Shahidullah Shahid said that the suicide bombing in Fateh Jang was carried out by TTP attackers.
The TTP spokesman said that 20 security personnel have been killed in Bajaur agency, of whom 10 are with the militant outfit.
Shahidullah Shahid said that the TTP started the dialogue process with sincerity and announced a ceasefire with the government in the interest of the country. However, he said, the government was powerless and we kept on receiving dead bodies.
The TTP spokesman further said that doors are still open for dialogue with the government.
