Coinciding with the 21st death anniversary of Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan being observed on Thursday, Twitter has also paid glowing tribute to the legendary Qawwal.

His name with a hashtag ‘#NusratFatehAliKhan’ has been trending on twitter, a social networking service, since morning.

Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan breathed only for 48 years before he passed away at London’s Cromwell Hospital on August 16, 1997, leaving his millions of fan across the globe in a state of shock and grief.

Born in Faisalabad on October 13, 1948, Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan enthralled the music lovers for years with his mesmerizing and powerful voice. From ‘Dam Mast Qalandar Mast Mast’ to ‘Tumhen Dill agi Bhool Jaani Padegi’, numerous hits by Nusrat Ali Khan still continues to spellbind the listeners.

Some of his other popular songs and Qawwalis include ‘Yeh Jo Halka Halka Suroor Hai’, ‘Allah Hoo Allah Hoo’, ‘Dil Pe Zakham Khate Hain’, ‘Ap bethe hain balin pe meri’, ‘Main Khayal Hun Kisi Aur Ka’, ‘Shikwa Jawab E Shikwa’, ‘Gham Hai Ya Khushi Hai’, and ‘Jaag Uthe Hain Dard Purane’.

For his contribution to Pakistani music, the Pakistani government bestowed him the Pride of Performance award in 1987. He was also honored with the prestigious UNESCO Music Prize.

In addition, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s name is included in Guinness Book of World Records for the largest recorded output by a Qawwali artist.
