GILGIT: Two high-profile terrorists were arrested when security forces conducted a major operation in the remote northern town on Saturday, a senior police official.
The police official said that after receiving a tip-off about the presence of two high-profile terrorists in Chilas, police and security forces cordoned off the entire town in a massive operation and took the terrorists into custody.
“We have arrested two high-profile terrorists who were directly involved in the terror incident of the Nanga Parbat in which ten foreign climbers were killed,” the official told on the condition of anonymity.
As many as nine foreign mountaineers and their tour guide were shot dead by gunmen at the 4,200-meter base camp of Nanga Parbat on June 23. A small militant group said to be affiliated with the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed the attack.
According to police, both terrorists were hiding disguised in women’s clothing when they were held.
