KARACHI: In an awful incident on Monday, two poor women were killed and many others fainted when stampede occurred during distribution of ration among deserving people in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal area this morning.
Reports said the stampede occurred due to mismanagement and mishandling in a marriage hall near NIPA Chowrangi where food items were being distributed by few affluent people ahead of the holy month of Ramazan.
Police and rescue workers said more than a dozen were injured as a result of stampede and scores fainted. They were rushed to hospital where two of them were pronounced dead.
A similar stampede killed 18 women and children in Karachi when charity workers were handing out free flour to the needy in a congested building at Jodia Bazar area in September 2009.
