KABUL: Unknown gunmen kidnapped a senior Afghan government official along with his driver in the Afghan capital Kabul on Tuesday, an interior ministry official said.
The official who declined to be named told a foreign news agency that the deputy minister for public works Ahmad Shah Waheed was taken by gunmen at around 7:00 am (0230 GMT) from the Khairkhana neighbourhood of Kabul while he was on his way to work.
A Kabul police spokesman Hashmatullah Stanikzai confirmed the incident and said that the Afghan police forces have launched a search to secure his release.
On the other hand, a spokesman for the Afghan Taliban militants Zabihullah Mujahid told they had no knowledge of Waheed´s kidnapping.
