PESHAWAR: Unknown gunmen opened fire on a local leader of the Awami National Party (ANP) in Kohati area of Peshawar on Tuesday, leaving him dead on the spot.
Police said that Anwarul Haq, a former Union counsellor and a member of ANP’s district organising committee in Peshawar, was killed when he was present at his shop.
Following the incident, workers of the ANP blocked Peshawar’s G.T road for all forms of traffic.
The protesters which also included ANP leader Mian Iftikhar Hussain and other party members carried black flags and shouted slogans against the provincial government while demanding the immediate arrest of Haq’s assailants.
