US Congress approves $532 million assistance for Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The US ambassador to Pakistan Richard Olson called on the federal finance minister Ishaq Dar in Islamabad on Monday and discussed matters of mutual interest.

During the meeting, the US envoy said that the US Congress has approved $532 million assistance package for Pakistan under the Kerry Lugar act and it would be spent on different sectors including energy, defense against terrorism, education, health economic growth and on community building.

The US ambassador also congratulated the finance minister on successful completion of fourth and fifth International Monetary Fund (IMF) review and raising the reserve up to $15 billion.

The finance minister on this occasion said that remarked that the government of Pakistan would spend a large amount of this assistance on the rehabilitation of the temporarily displaced persons (TDPs) of North Waziristan agency.

The minister the US to speed up delivery of upgraded Boeing air-crafts to Pakistan helping in the re-structuring of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) fleet.

The two sides also discussed the agenda for forthcoming visit of the US Secretary of State John Kerry to Pakistan next month.
