ISLAMABAD: The United States Deputy Secretary of State William J. Burns called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad on Friday and discussed bilateral relations and regional issues.
The meeting was also attended by US ambassador to Pakistan Richard Olson and special assistant to the prime minister, Tariq Fatemi.
The US deputy secretary of state also called on the adviser to the prime minister on national security and foreign affairs Sartaj Aziz and discussed Pakistan-US bilateral relations and regional issues.
During the meeting, the adviser emphasized the importance Pakistan attaches to stronger Pakistan-US cooperation and expressed satisfaction on the progress made in this regard since the visit of the prime minister to Washington last year.
Earlier, the US deputy secretary of state held a meeting with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi and discussed matters of mutual interest including regional security situation.
