WAPDA to generate 21,000 megawatt electricity

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) plans to generate 21,000 megawatt electricity during the next 8 to 10 years which would help overcome load shedding and promote agricultural and industrial sectors, the sources in the authority said.

The sources said that the authority is working on various short and long term projects to increase power generation and overcome load shedding.

The WAPDA has also launched a special campaign to stop power pilferage and recover outstanding bills from the individuals as well as state institutions, they said.

Moreover, the sources said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has directed the authority to prepare a clear road map for privatization of distribution and power generation companies to improve their performance.
