In a statement issued on Monday evening, Pakistan-India Peoples’ Forum for Peace and Democracy stated there is was) not doubt that police stood guard while the mob killed and looted and burnt in several cases of past but yesterday (Sunday December 15, 2019) in Jamia and Aligarh, the police were the mob.
Aligarh Muslim University (#AMU) needs our urgent intervention and attention. Internet is suspended.
Sharing a video of yesterday which is of a CCTV footage outside Morison court hostel, AMU. It clearly shows police taking students out from their hostels and beating them badly. pic.twitter.com/V5G3IEgJ4y— Kawalpreet Kaur (@kawalpreetdu) December 16, 2019
Statement says:
Throwing stones at students, climbing walls to enter women’s hostels, entering and vandalising a masjid, firing tear gas into the library, dragging men, beating them and even burning buses. They violated the law and its codes to make their masters proud. They proved that they have chosen sides and the khaki uniform was rising to the call of saffron.
Many students are critically injured, even the Imam of Jamia was not spared. In AMU students lost their fingers due to the tear gas canisters, women students were molested by police and goons in helmets.
These are narrated by frantic voice messages from students hiding in libraries and reporting as the forces advanced. They kept at it through the night and even though many are missing, we know why they are missing.
If this could happen in the capital, we can only gauge the horror unleashed by the paramilitary forces in Kashmir and the North East regions where the Armed Forces Special Powers Act has been in force for decades. As India descends into a daily saga of police violence, Kashmir remains under lockdown, now in its 134th day. The North East of India faces another day of killing and silencing. West Bengal burns. Aligarh is wounded. And students in Delhi are under attack.
