LAHORE: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Qamar Zaman Kaira has said that in PPP led government has adopted consensus politics, which has strengthened democracy and state.

He was addressing at a seminar on “Why Is Democracy Important For Pakistan?” in Lahore this afternoon, which was organized by Pakistan Journalist Forum.

He said that PPP led government took all important issues including NFC Award and constitutional amendments through forming consensus among all stake holders.He said that government will ensure holding next general election in time.

He said that parliamentary democracy is the best available system of governance and Pakistan was created also by a democratic vision. He was of the view that parliamentary democracy is a participatory system, in which all segments of society with different ideologies can live in harmony.

He said that states can become stronger, if they act upon the principles on which they were created. He said that if the founding principles are not followed, then the state becomes weaker. He said that we should learn from our mistakes of history.

Information Minister said that whenever democracy weakened in the country, the country itself became weak.

He said that Pakistan was created through democratic process and denial of democracy led to the bifurcation of the state.

Kaira said that Pakistan is a land of diverse cultures, nationalities and languages whose identity must be recognized and respected with sincerity. He said that some people consider this diversity as a drawback and promote centrist thinking.

Underlining the need to change this thinking, Mr.Kaira said that our forefathers envisioned a country which would be ruled by parliamentary democracy.

Qamar Zaman Kaira said that PPP delegated power and resources in the country which strengthened the country and federation. He said that we acted upon the spirit of Charter of Democracy and promoted the principle of reconciliation. Kamar Zaman Kaira said that we have to accept one thing that we all have to live together and live together while accepting each other’s differences.

Earlier, in his address, senior journalist Imtiaz Alam stressed upon all the political forces to get united to eliminate the menace of sectarianism from society.
On this occasion, Ata ur Rehman, Qudratullah Chaudhry, Riaz ur Rehman Saghir, Sughra Sadaf, Sajjad Bukhari, Jamshed Awan, Jameel Athar, Tahir Malik, Sami Ibrahim, Farhat Sohail Goindi, Javed Iqbal, Taiba Bukhari, Javed Kahlun, Mian Ishfaq Anjum and others also spoke briefly.
