Islamabad: Sources in Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) confirm that the party has submitted the name of Mahmood Khan Achakzai as its top nomination for Interim Prime Minister of the country.
Meanwhile, sources in Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) are of the view that President Asif Zardari will have no objection on the name of Achakzai. This scenario indicate that chances of Mahmood Khan Achakzai to become Interim prime Minister have increased and he will be possible Interim prime Minister. He is known for his anti-establishment stance and clarity of his position agaist any anti-democratic elements. He is strong Democrat and may be in position to pacify Balochistan situation through his personal respect and contacts with elements who are active in this restive province of Pakistan against Army and government of Pakistan.
He is the leader and the chairman of Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party, a Pasthun Nationalist Party based in Balochistan, Pakistan. The son of activist Abdul Samad Khan Achakzai, Achakzai remained a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan three times from his hometown of Qilla Abdullah and Quetta. He was the only Pashtun Nationalist MNA to be elected in 2002 elections in which Pashtun belt was swept by a religious party Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA). He is against Afghans leaving in Pakistan and is of the view that Afghan Jihad has created all problems being faced by Pakistan today.
Mahmood Khan Achakzai is not viewed favorably by many as he demands rights of Pushtun people and wants provincial control of resources like water, oil, gas, chromites, iron, and electricity. is the current chairman of Pakistan Oppressed Nations Movement which was founded by Ataullah Mengal. and also the leader of APDM stands for (All parties Democratic Allienc).
