LAHORE, Pakistan: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Saturday said the world appreciated the economic gains achieved by his government in the shortest period of time.

Foreign reserves of the country had swelled to about $21 billion, which were hovering around at only $2 to $3 billion before 2013, he said while responding to a query of media persons here after conveying his condolence over the death of father of former Nazim, chairman Punjab Group of Colleges and chairman Dunya Media Group Mian Amir Mehmood.

The Prime Minister said that the trickle-down effects of his government economic policies could be witnessed in slashing of prices of petroleum and other basic daily-use commodities.

He said “The inflation has been brought down by 2 per cent, prices of daily-use items were cut down, electricity is being supplied and the wheel of industry is moving.”

Prices of petrol and diesel were also reduced by Rs 5, he added.

The Prime Minister said “I am not saying it, but the people in the world acknowledge it. The economic indicators of the country are showing very positive trends.”

About National Action Plan, the Prime Minister replied that it was being implemented with full force. On certain points, the progress was being made while on others, efforts were required to be expedited.

After his government came into power in 2013, the law and order situation in the country was deteriorating, with rampant incidents of bomb blasts, he added.

Now significant improvement in the overall law and order situation had been made, he said, adding that Rangers would stay in Karachi where the law and order situation had been stabilized in the last two and half years.

He said the operation Zarb-e-Azb achieved very positive results.

The Prime Minister said “The country is now put on the path of peace and progress. The media across the globe appreciate these achievements.”

About Pathankot incident, the Prime Minister reiterated that they would reach to the final conclusion.

He said that the matters with India were improving but the Pathankot incident had affected them.

About Saudi-Iran tensions, the Prime Minister said that Pakistan took the initiative on its own to reduce the tension and remove misunderstanding between the two Muslim countries.

Pakistan was making efforts to reduce tensions between Iran and Saudi Arabia and it had been its desire to address the issues whenever they arose in the Muslim world, he added.
