ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The World Food Day is being observed across the world including Pakistan on Thursday with the theme ‘Family Farming: Feeding the world, caring for the earth’.
The day is celebrated on October 16 every year in honor of the date of the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in 1945.
The World Food Day is celebrated widely by many other organizations concerned with food security including the World Food Programme (WFP) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development.
In his message on the occasion, the WFP Pakistan Deputy Country Director Peter Scott-Bowden said that agriculture is central to both economic growth and development in Pakistan.
In the past three years, the government of Pakistan has contributed over 300,000 metric tons of wheat to WFP to support displaced families and help communities re-establish their lives and livelihoods, primarily farming, in areas of return.
