ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Co-Chairman Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Asif Ali Zardari has said that the government and the opposition should sit together and formulate a long-term economic policy for the Country.
Asif Ali Zardari was apprehended by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) after his pre-arrest bail plea in fake bank accounts case was rejected by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on June 10.
However as per the directives of the Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser, the National Assembly Secretariat issued his production order on Wednesday (yesterday), allowing him to participate in the budget discussion in the National Assembly.
While participating in the debate in the House on Thursday, Asif Ali Zardari thanked the Speaker for issuing his production orders.
The Co-Chairman PPP said that they want to join hands with the government to streamline the Country’s economy. He said that in testing times, they raised the slogan of Pakistan khappay.
Asif Ali Zardari said that the government as well as the opposition must devise a joint strategy on issues of national interest. He said that all stakeholders must formulate a national economic policy with collective efforts.
Zardari further said that the government has enhanced salaries of employees in the federal budget 2019-20 but increasing tax on them has only offset the benefit of that raise. He said that those already paying taxes should not be further burdened.
The former president said that steps need to be taken to restore the confidence of industrialists and businessmen.
