QUETTA: Eid al-Adha will be celebrated across the country on October 16 as moon for the month of Zil-Hajj has been sighted in Balochistan’s capital of Quetta.

Maulana Anwar ul Haq Haqqani, chairman of provincial zonal committee, announced the moon has been widely seen by members of the committee and common people in Quetta.

Central Ruet-e-Hilal committee headed by Mufti Muneeb ur Rehman is also expected to make a formal announcement in this regards shortly.

Eid al-Adha is an important Islamic holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide to honour the willingness of the prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his young first-born son Ismail (Ishmael) as an act of submission to God’s command and his son’s acceptance to being sacrificed, before God intervened to provide Abraham with a Lamb to sacrifice instead.

In the lunar Islamic calendar, Eid al-Adha falls on the 10th day of Zil-Hajj and lasts for four days.
