LAHORE, Pakistan: In view of the security situation, 101 polling stations out of 283 have been declared sensitive in Lahore’s NA-122 and PP-147 constituencies.

The by-elections in NA-122, PP-147 and NA-144 Okara will take place on Sunday or which all arrangements have been finalized to ensure peaceful polling.

In NA-122, a total of 17 candidates are in the arena; however, prominent among them are the former Speaker National Assembly and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) leader Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Abdul Aleem Khan and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Barrister Mian Aamir Hassan.

Likewise, five candidates including the PML-N’s Ali Arif Chaudhry and PTI’s Muhammad Ashraf Khan Sohan were contesting in NA-144 Okara while PML-N’s Mohsin Latif, PTI’s Shoaib Siddique and PPP’s Iftikhar Shahid Advocate will be the contestants in PP-147 Lahore.

A total of 283 polling stations have been setup to facilitate the voters in by-elections of NA-122 and PP-147 while a total of 210 polling station have been set up in NA-144, according to Election Commission Punjab.

In addition, to ensure the smooth and peaceful polling in the said constituencies, the personnel of Pakistan army and Rangers will also be deployed along with police personnel outside the polling stations.

On Saturday night, the political parties mainly the PML-N and the PTI arranged their separate public gatherings in Lahore before the time for electioneering formally ended.

The PML-N Jalsa was held at the Doongi ground while the PTI’s staged its rally at the Mazang Chongi. The leaders of both the parties expressed their confidence that they would win the October 11 by-polls.
