14 killed in twin car bomb blasts in Baghdad

BAGHDAD, Iraq: At least 14 persons were killed while 31 others sustained injuries when two separate car bomb blasts ripped through the Iraqi capital Baghdad on Monday, the security and medical officials said.

The officials said that an explosive-laden car blew up near a commercial street in Meshtal area of eastern Baghdad, killing at least eight persons and injuring 15 others.

The second explosion took place in Baghdad’s western district of al-Amiriya that left another six persons killed and 16 others injured.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the blasts. However, the Iraqi officials usually blame such attacks on the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), a Sunni extremist group led by Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi fighting government forces in Syria and Iraq.
