BEIJING: A 6.6 magnitude earthquake in China’s western Gansu province killed 22 people and seriously injured another 200, state media said on Monday as rescuers battled to reach survivors in the remote area.
An official surnamed He from Minxian in Gansu province‚ where the 5.9 and 5.6 magnitude tremors struck‚ said there were 19 dead and more than 200 injured in seven townships severely hit by the quakes. The United States Geological Survey said the initial quake had a magnitude of 5.9.
