28 injured as blast hits Thai opposition protest march

BANGKOK: At least 28 persons were injured in a bomb blast that struck an anti-government protest march in the Thai capital Bangkok on Friday.

The explosion took place on Friday shortly before opposition leader Suthep Thaugsuban was due to march past the explosion spot.

The opposition spokesman Akanat Promphan said that the bomb went off about 30 meters (100 feet) from Suthep and then his bodyguards escorted him back to a rally stage.

Meanwhile, one of the protest leaders Satit Wonghnongtaey said that the Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra must take responsibility for the blast. However, the government denied any involvement in the bombing, saying the demonstrators were trying to provoke violence.
