KARACHI: Dr. Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin, the Dawoodi Bohra Community spiritual leader, passed away on Friday due to a heart attack at the age of 102.
The executive secretary of the late His Holiness Shaikh Abdeali Bhanpurwala confirmed the news, saying “He passed away today due to a heart attack.”
Burhanuddin, who was considered to be the 52nd Dai of the community and greatly revered by the Bohris, passed away at Saifee Mahal, his residence in Malabar Hill in south Mumbai.
As soon as the news about his death spread, thousands of grieving Dawoodi Bohra community members rushed to his residence.
Likewise, Dawoodi Bohra community members started gathering in different Jamaat Khanas in Karachi and others parts of Pakistan as the news spread. Moreover, all shops and businesses in Bohri Bazar Saddar, old city areas, Hyderi, Nazimabad and other localities closed.
Meanwhile, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement Chief Altaf Hussain in a statement from London condoled the demise of Syedna Mohammad Burhanuddin and eulogized his services.
