North America400 civilians killed in 339 US drone strikes since 2004: NA told

ISLAMABAD: As many as 400 civilians have been killed in 339 US drone strikes in Pakistan’s tribal belt since 2004, the National Assembly was told on Monday.

The federal government informed the lower house about the said data which is based on findings of a number of unofficial organisations which followed the United States’ policy to use drones worldwide.

However, there was no mention of the number of terrorists killed in the drone attacks.

It is pertinent to mention that Pakistan has repeatedly emphasised the importance of bringing an immediate end to drone strikes and declared the unilateral strikes as a violation of the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Moreover, the Pakistan has consistently maintained that drone strikes are counter-productive, entailed loss of innocent civilian lives and have human rights and humanitarian implications.
