ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has said that successive regimes in Indian occupied Kashmir during the past six decades crushed the people and encouraged the Indian forces to commit human rights violations.
Addressing a seminar, `Human Rights Violations in Kashmir – Indifference of International Community’ organized by APHC’s human rights wing in connection with the World Human Rights Day in Srinagar, the Mirwaiz said that successive regimes that ruled Kashmir from time to time were responsible for the worst human rights violations in the territory, reported Kashmir Media Service.
He stated that the so-called Kashmir Assembly had always been anti-people.
“This institution was used as a tool against the people from time to time as draconian laws like TADA, POTA, PSA and AFSPA were passed.”
He pointed out that pro-India parties had always acted as stooges of New Delhi in Kashmir.
The APHC Chairman said, “It is unfortunate to see the United Nations adopting double standards in dealing with the human rights violations across the globe. There is one yardstick for Afghanistan, Syria, and Palestine and another for East Timor and South Sudan. The fact remains that UN is a failed institution that dances to the tunes of the United States,” he said.
“The UN has failed Kashmiris. We have been facing the worst kind of human rights abuses over the past 26 years and this institution has failed to play its role.” He said Kashmir has seen disappearances of over 9,000 people besides more than 6,500 unmarked grave.
He urged India to exhibit a realistic approach on Kashmir. “New Delhi should understand that it is not an issue that could be pushed under the carpet but realize that it is a political issue that calls for a political solution and a human issue that calls for understanding the sufferings of humans,” the APHC Chairman said.
